Princess Cakes
Published 31 May 2012 by Cake Decorating
As anyone who's ever organised a children's party knows, 'princesses' is a theme that comes up time and time again. For those with a love of everything pink and frothy, we've gathered a few ideas for cakes themed around magic, fairytale royalty and edible tiaras that you can create with royal icing. Even if you think that pink 'stinks', you can adapt any of these ideas to make magical cakes for girls or boys. Read on!
The Princess and the Frog
These perfect 'princess and the frog' themed cupcakes are by British bakery The Pet Lamb Patisserie. The two styles of cupcake compliment each other perfectly. We think the lilypad cupcakes are so beautiful and unique - you can use the skills you already have in making and colouring the buttercream and the cutting tools to cut the lilypad and flower shapes.

Princesses and Toadstools Cakes and Cupcakes
These princess and toadstool cakes and cupcakes are the handmade creation of a family of cake bloggers, posting on the blog Pink Teacup Shoppe. Check out the full set of photos and marvel at the attention to detail: toadstools, flowers and delicate buttercream piping!

Tiara and Pillow Cake
The incredible 'pillow' is actually carved out of cake! We've found a great tutorial for you to try over at Cake Central. The steps are incredibly clear and easy to follow, but you'll need a ruler. For the tiara on top you can buy one readymade or if you're feeling more bold, try icing one out of royal icing using a similar technique to the one from issue 2 of Cake Decorating magazine. Don't worry if you can't remember, this tutorial explains everything.

Learn how to make a fun, bright fuschia castle cake in this easy to follow video tutorial from Betty Crocker. Again, the piped details on the windows and doors really make the cake. The end of the video even gives you a couple of ideas to create a chocolate and wafer 'boy's castle' cake.
