More Things to Do With Sanding Sugar
Published 30 August 2012 by Cake Decorating
Texture is such an important part of cake decorating and sanding sugar is a great way to achieve a sparkling, 'jewelled' finish and an interesting mouthfeel, all in one. Sanding sugar is sugar with large, thick crystalline granules. It doesn't melt when you bake it, nor does it lose its sparkling effect like other types of sugar used in cake decorating. You can buy sanding sugar from The Cake Decorating Company, as well as a host of other UK vendors.
If you don't know how to add food colourings and gels to sanding sugar, then check out this quick tutorial here.

In this tutorial, Kotomi of Bake Greek teaches us how to add texture to simple fondant lettering. This style of using sanding sugar adds a soft and delicate flair to ordinary lettering and can be used on cookies as well as cakes. The simplicity of the design is its charm. To complete this tutorial, you will need a letter cutter, fondant paste, sanding sugar in your colour of choice and a clean brush for cake decorating.

Use sanding sugar to add define fun cookie shapes
This tutorial is pretty similar but this time you'll be learning how to decorate a set of ladybird and flower cookies. You can purchase the ladybird cookie cutters from here. We really love the vivid pink colour of these cookies. Look at the delicate green and black dot piping around the yellow centers of the daisies. These look as stunning and delicious as they taste.
